A pizza steel is a flat slab of solid carbon steel designed to cook pizza in your home oven. Unlike pizza stones, it delivers up to 20x better heat transfer, giving you a crispier crust and faster cook time. More heat energy is transferred to your crust, allowing you to achieve blistering crusts just like at your 1000-degree Fahrenheit local pizzeria but from the comfort of your home oven.
Steel is a natural conductor that superheats twenty times more than a ceramic baking stone and stays searingly hot. We work exclusively with high-grade metals. Pizza Steel provides a Certificate of Origin document, which ensures only high-grade food safe solid carbon steel is used.
The Pizza Steel is made super tough to go straight into your oven set at the highest temperature. More heat energy is transferred to your crust, delivering the outstanding performance of a 1000-degree Fahrenheit (537 degrees Celsius) oven in a home oven at 450 degrees Fahrenheit (232 degrees Celsius).
There is no need for a time-consuming and expensive wood-fired oven to bake a crispy pizza crust with the tastiest base; charred and blistered dough pockets are achieved on this Australian-made steel plate. The textured bead-blasted surface (the cooking side to use) is seasoned with flaxseed oil and is solid, unbreakable and guaranteed for life.
There are one or two large holes in the corners to grip and hang (if you like) for storage. Every ALLOY Pizza Steel is precision cut on our CNC Laser Cutter. We make no apology for the incredibly weighty slab of metal to cook you the best pizza in the world.
Place your pizza steel on the middle rack of your oven and preheat it at the highest temperature (usually 250°C/480°F) for 60 minutes. For best results use fresh pizza dough (already cooked dough may burn). Once preheated, slide your prepared pizza onto the steel using a pizza peel. Bake until the crust is golden and bubbly - usually in just 5–8 minutes. Keep the steel in place and bake pizzas one after another with minimal reheating. We have also used the grill or broiler in combination with oven heat. Every oven is different; it requires experimentation - the fun part!
Yes, you can leave your pizza steel in the oven permanently. It won’t damage your oven and can actually help regulate temperature by reducing hot spots. Just remember it will take longer for your oven to preheat. Avoid storing it on the bottom of the oven, as this can interfere with heat flow and baking performance.
Not at all! While it's perfect for baking restaurant-quality pizza, your pizza steel is incredibly versatile. Use it to bake bread, pastries, flatbreads, and cookies, or even as a griddle on the stovetop for searing steaks, smash burgers, or roasting vegetables. It’s a multi-use tool built for serious heat and endless cooking possibilities.
Material: Solid Carbon Steel
Our pizza steels are made from 10mm Grade 250 solid carbon steel material and are perfectly suitable for cooking.
They are laser-cut, then sandblasted to achieve a smooth surface, and coated with flaxseed oil ready for first use.
Made in Australia
Because shiny isn't better.
Raw steel comes with mill scale from the manufacturing process. We bead blast every Pizza Steel to remove it and create a clean surface that's perfect for seasoning. That's why your Pizza Steel develops a beautiful seasoned finish and cooks incredible pizzas for years.
It's not just because it looks good.
Bead blasting removes mill scale and surface contaminants left over from the steel manufacturing process, creating a clean, even surface that's ready for seasoning. It also gives the oil something to grip to during seasoning, helping build a durable protective layer. The result? Better rust resistance, a more consistent cooking surface, and a Pizza Steel that's ready to make incredible pizza from day one.
We initially apply (Flaxseed Oil) after blasting which "coats" the steel and penetrates more when heated. Similar to the language used "seasoning cast iron". The first heating of the pizza steel for 1 hour is the beginning of the seasoning process, once is enough since the pizza steel is only used for baking, but enthusiasts can heat to a high temperature more than once and let cool and repeat if they want to use the pizza steel for cooking different types of food.
Once cooled, wipe with a cloth oiled with high-temperature oil to “clean” the surface.
Let the pizza steel cool completely before cleaning. Use a metal scraper or stiff brush to remove any food residue - avoid soap or soaking in water. If needed, wipe with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly. To prevent rust, apply a light coat of cooking oil after each use and store in a dry place. Over time, your steel will develop a natural non-stick patina that improves performance.
